After finishing the Danish experience, I come back, as promised, with some of my favourite summer destinations so far. Of course I could talk about so many places around the world… who doesn’t dream of Maldives, Hawaii or Bahamas?
Unfortunatelly, these kind of destinations are not affordable for everyone…. fortunately, there is this little blogger in here who will show wonderful and accesable spots where people enjoy their time to the fullest without spending a fortune.
Well, my path leads today to one special spot of stunning Italy: Genova ❤ The place where sea, mountain, history, culture and food delights meet.

First thing that got my attention in this corner of the world was the way present and past interfere. I loved how the city kept a great part of its old components: you may walk on the street and suddenly the wall next to you is not anymore the modern built one, but one made of bricks dating since Geneve was surrounded by a wall of defense to protect its territory from enemies.

In the past, the city was one of the main ports of Europe and if you don’t believe me, ask Christopher Columbus, the most known citisen in its history. His house still receives visitors even after so many years and his travel stories rummor around.

Speaking of architecture and design, Genova stands out of the crowd through its uniform style with no exeption. Every street is full of colorful blocks with green wood windows and narrow sidewalks lead lost tourists to squares full of life and music. What I liked the most is that I didn’t see many office buildings, almost not at all, and I think that’s what keeps the magic alive. It really gets you into a medieval atmosphere. 🎭👑

Even if you are looking for a city break or a place to go to the beach, it is a good choice in both cases. I was attracted more to the city side and tried to explore it as much as possible. Steps led me to spots such as the aquarium, which impressed me through its size and diversity of species, the large port, elegant cathedrals, impressive towers and bridges, restaurants with delicious food (ate here the best pizza in Italy, even better than in Milan👌) and the old center with Piazza de Ferrari, the most appreciated place by locals according to our Italian host.

Yet, something that I observed not only in Genova, but in different places in Italy is that locals are not that happy about tourists so if you will ask for directions, good luck! 😂 A lot of people don’t speak English or refuse to help foreigners, probably because they are fed up to see so many people coming to their home city every summer and honestly I understand them. Of course, this is not the case for everyone. I met also nice and very welcoming Italians and I am more than greatful for their help and kindnes, but comparing to other countries were I have been, here I was a little bit surprised by this aspect.

If you want to have a panoramic view of the city, in the port there is a big wheel separating water from land. I enjoyed a very beautiful sunset from up there and admired the province’s day and night faces.

An element that makes Genova beautiful and relaxing is also nature. Lots of gardens, parks and vegetation in general decorate the city in a fresh green garland. I think it was one of the reasons why our tired soles kept hiking up and down the pavers of the coast.

I found it impressive how Italy has something to offer in almost every city. Its vast history letf the amprent all over the country and the state really took care of all the remainings making sure to keep the courageous past alive.
