Eskișehir’e hoș geldiniz

Having a place where to write my thoughts have never been such a blessing as it is these days. As you may know already, I am currently living in Turkey and all this Corona virus pandemy and the quarantine got me here by surprise. Thus, instead of traveling, my first concearn now is to stay safe in my house (not an easy job for someone who is used to hang out almost everyday).

Yet, the last days gave me time to reflect on past experiences and that is why I finally decided to write about more happy days. Eskișehir has been the last city I visited and the most full of life indeed. 🤩

It is true that this is not the first place tourists think about when coming to Turkey, but I am lucky to live just one hour away from Eskișehir and it exceeded my expectations. On the first day of proper spring, with sun shining bright and flowers bloomig, the small city welcomed me first with one of the best breakfasts I had so far. Further on, while wondering on small streets I discovered its both modern and traditional sides.🧐

Odunpazari Evleri paths introduced us to a quite medieval area combined with bazaar shops and lots of Turkish vibes. Here you can find the “treasures” of the city as there are jewelery makes and lots of hand made souvenirs, mostly by art of glass.

The city is known for its skilled craftsmen and not only for those skilled in modeling glass, but also for shoe makers 👢 and knife masters🔪. Here is where I introduce you to the neighborhood of Bıçakçılar çarşısı.

Just from the photos you can understand the rudimentar, yet fascinating ways of production in shoes, knifes and other kind of tools. What impresses me the most is the strenght of cultural descendence and how such jobs survived against the mass production we are facing nowadays.

Except touristic attractions, Eskișehir has also nice places for its citizens and stundents such as beautiful parks and resting areas, cool caffes, cheap restaurants, very good ice cream shops and lots of shopping areas.🌈

As art found its place in Eskișehir, I should also tell you about the funny golden statues around the city. They give a sense of beauty and elegance together with the multitude of flowers.

Overall, I could say this was a very enjoyable one day trip. My advice is to check the weather before going there because a sunny day will make it ten times better and do not forget to try the traditional dishes. ☀️
